Our Story So Far

Caring for Veterans Project, Inc. was inspired by CEO/President Kelly McCormack’s work with seriously ill and terminally ill patients. For almost two decades Kelly has worked closely with many terminally ill veterans and their families. From Kelly’s personal experiences she realized that often times veteran’s desires to remain in their own homes went unfulfilled as limited resources or inability of caregivers to provide care necessitated these veterans remain in a hospital or go to a nursing home. To cover the cost of remaining in a hospital or going to a nursing home, most insurances require the continuation of curative treatments in which the veteran could no longer physically participate and did not improve their quality of life.

Each veteran may have different coverage in services provided to them at the end of life. Though hospice care is provided, veterans and their families often need more assistance than is provided by hospice. For example, hospice care does not provide extended periods of caregiving assistance unless the veteran is in an inpatient hospice unit or a contracted facility.

Caring for Veterans Project Inc. aims to provide financial and/or support for services needed, but not covered under Insurance or the VA. Our goal is to enhance the veteran’s quality of life during this chapter of the life, while easing the burden of their primary caregivers. We want to facilitate what the veteran has determined to be meaningful to them during this stage of their life. Our veterans have sacrificed much for our quality of life, let’s focus on theirs!
